This blog has served me well, but it’s a pain in the arse to actually search for topics. I’ve decided to move the more topical, technical writing to a GitBook.
It’s still in its infancy, but I’ll be making frequent commits there and writing long-form posts here.
Why the shift?
- My understanding of a topic evolves with time. A GitBook is better able to log and reflect those changes, with the ability to track past changes.
- Categorizing by topics and subtopics makes it easier not only to search for what I have learned but also creates a better ‘mind map’ of how different topics relate to each other.
- Different platforms encourage different writing styles. GitBook uses Markdown, and WordPress uses HTML, and it’s clear which is easier for inserting code blocks.
- That sweet git commits. On days that I don’t push code commits, it’s superficially satisfying to have that one GitBook commit so I can fulfill my great wall of green.
As I understand, GitBook has become easier to connect to a GitHub repository now, compared to before. If you have tried it previously but found it difficult, now’s a good time to revisit it again.
